Managing Safety, Health and Environment at Workplace
Before any work kicks off a trained supervisor carries out safety audit
of the sites as per the requirement mentioned in safety checklist. If any
of the requirements are not met, the supervisor has to take measures to
rectify the problem areas and record them in the form.
Only upon meeting every requirement he/she signs a health and safety
checklist form (no. CL011).
At workplace before commencement of any work, a trained supervisor has to
brief the team on company safety policy and general safety procedures. If
the job involves special risk, specific safety procedures will be briefed.
Every attendee completes and signs form CL12 (HSE induction).
Periodic Audits
Periodic audits has to be conducted every fortnightly. The supervisor has
to inform the site foreman of the audit and allow him maximum of two hours
to be ready for the audit.
Periodic audit focus on three main categories:
Environmental: Availability of ablution, disposal of hazardous
waste (paint, oil etc.) , disposal of waste ( availability of dust bin),
Noise at night etc.
Safety: Obstacle free work area, use of PPE, Safety signs,
housekeeping, use of proper tools availability of First Aid Kit,
availability of operational fire extinguisher, availability of vehicle to
carry injured person to clinic etc.
Hygiene: Availability of clean drinking water on-site, food
preparation and storage area etc.
Work does not stop during the periodic audit.
The supervisors have to adhere to PPE requirements to enter the site.
Time and date of every audit has to be recorded in the SITE-DIARY by the
foreman.
Surprise checks
Supervisor has authority to conduct a surprise check at any of company’s
ongoing project site selected randomly. The supervisor upon confirming his
Identity to the site foreman, request him to suspend hazardous activity
in-order to be able to conduct the audit.
The supervisors have to adhere to PPE requirements to enter the site.
Time and date of every audit has to be recorded in the SITE-DIARY by the
foreman.
Procedure to follow if found non-compliant.
If found non-compliant, the supervisor has the authority to halt the
process or entire work depending on the type of non-compliancy.
Supervisor advices on the measures to be taken using written memo listing
the problem areas.
The processes that have been suspended can be re-started only after
re-inspection and verification by the supervisor.
